Mission Bit leading in AI education for San Francisco youth

San Francisco, California – October 2, 2024 — Mission Bit is at the forefront of artificial intelligence (AI) education for youth in San Francisco, providing groundbreaking opportunities for students to engage with one of the most transformative technologies of our time. Through innovative programs and a commitment to inclusivity, we empower the next generation of tech leaders to harness the power of AI and shape the future.

Pioneering AI education

As the demand for AI skills grows, Mission Bit is dedicated to ensuring that youth of color are not left behind in this technological revolution. Our AI education initiatives are designed to be accessible, engaging, and impactful, offering students the chance to learn from experts, work on real-world projects, and develop highly sought-after skills in today’s job market.

Highlights of our AI programs

  • In our curriculum, students learn the fundamentals of AI, empowering them to be creators rather than just consumers.
  • Intro to Python: By teaching Python, we are teaching students one of the core languages of AI development. To help with this, students are taught three main concepts through project-based learning.
    • Data gathering: For the first project, students learn how to collect data from users, a foundation for data-driven AI applications.
    • Data organization and analysis: The second project focuses on organizing and analyzing collected data. This teaches students to interpret and structure information effectively, an essential part of training AI models.
    • Generative images and simple algorithms: Students apply algorithms to create generative images, exploring the creative side of AI in the third project.
  • Intro to Game Design: Students learn how AI can power non-player characters, gaining insight into how it enhances interactivity and realism in gaming environments.

A vision for the future

Christina Ortega, CEO of Mission Bit, shared her vision for the future of AI education:

“In light of Mayor Breed’s recent statement declaring San Francisco as the AI capital of the world, we aim to build on that vision by equipping our youth with the tools and knowledge to participate in this growing field actively. Our goal is to ensure they have the resources to become creators, not just consumers, of San Francisco’s AI development.”

Expanding our reach

Mission Bit is committed to reaching even more students across San Francisco and beyond as we expand our AI education programs. Our goal is to create a diverse and inclusive community of learners, equipped to lead in the tech industry and drive positive change through AI.
